The design solution was determined by the actual constraints of the apartment. The entrance was marked by a long and narrow corridor dividing the day zone and the night zone and lacking any natural light.

The clients hoped for an entrance that feels special and inviting. Because of fire regulations and budget constraints, the lobby couldn't open to the living area, which would have been a natural gesture to capture natural light and enlarge the space. In response, we rendered the lobby in dark plaster, that actually highlights the quality of the dim, natural light coming from the adjacent rooms. Suddenly, a dark space becomes perfectly normal and makes the rooms of the apartment that benefit natural light feel even brighter.
